Floor-to-Roof Paint Shop Strip-Out

NADC completed an extensive strip-out within an automotive paint shop, removing process equipment, piping, electrical systems, structural components and concrete.

The work created space for facility improvements while preserving roof drains, fiber-optic lines and other infrastructure that needed to remain in place.

The Challenge

The paint shop contained a dense combination of equipment, utilities, structural components and concrete that had to be removed within a 12-week schedule.

Approximately 150 rooftop structures—including ash houses, motors, stacks and vents—required removal using a 900-ton crane. NADC also needed to protect roof drains and fiber-optic lines while coordinating with multiple contractors and maintaining safe access around open trenches and floor openings.

NADC’s Approach

NADC sequenced the strip-out from the main floor through the roof, removing equipment, piping and electrical systems before completing structural and concrete demolition.

The team created space for a new roof installation, removed wet-deck concrete and dismantled the overhead carrier system. The project was completed on schedule with approximately 32,000 work hours, zero safety incidents and no project-related COVID-19 illnesses.
