Industrial Strip-Out | Georgetown, Kentucky
NADC completed a multi-phase industrial strip-out project encompassing approximately 283,500 square feet within an automotive assembly facility in Georgetown, Kentucky.
The work included dismantling 143 production bays, multiple assembly lines, conveyor systems, high-bay areas and trenches across three phases. Extensive planning and coordination allowed demolition activities to proceed around live utilities, newly installed equipment and ongoing plant operations while meeting condensed shutdown schedules.
Multi-phase strip-out of 143 production bays, multiple assembly lines, conveyor systems, high-bay areas and trenches across approximately 283,500 square feet.
Active automotive manufacturing facility, live utilities, newly installed equipment, multiple trades working within shared areas and condensed plant shutdown schedules.
The project required NADC to complete extensive interior demolition across multiple areas of an active automotive assembly facility while working around live utilities, existing production equipment and newly installed systems.
Work was divided into three phases, including two highly condensed shutdown periods. Demolition activities had to be carefully sequenced with other trades performing concrete placement and equipment installation, while material removal was routed through a single overhead exterior door.
The largest phase required approximately 80 NADC team members to dismantle 64 bays, eight high-bay areas, two trenches and conveyor systems serving three separate assembly lines within a five-day period.
NADC developed a phased demolition plan tailored to the facility’s production schedule and shutdown requirements.
During the first phase, crews dismantled 46 bays, one trench, four assembly lines and associated conveyor systems while the plant remained operational. The work also prepared the facility for the upcoming winter shutdown.
During the winter shutdown, approximately 40 to 50 crew members worked two 12-hour shifts across six separate work areas to dismantle an additional 25 bays within a condensed 12-day schedule.
The final summer shutdown involved approximately 80 team members working across the facility to remove 64 bays, eight high-bay areas, two trenches and conveyor systems associated with three assembly lines. The work was completed in five days, one shift ahead of schedule, with no property damage or first-aid incidents.
Careful coordination with other trades, protection of live utilities and equipment, and strategic material handling allowed NADC to complete the multi-phase project safely and efficiently within demanding production schedules.
